There are various question types for the IELTS Reading part.
All the 40 questions are generated using these types of questions:
1. Multiple Choice
Choose the correct answer from options (A, B, C, D).
Sometimes choose two or more answers from a list.
2. Identifying Information (True/False/Not Given)
Decide if the statement agrees with the information in the text.
TRUE = matches the information.
FALSE = contradicts the information.
NOT GIVEN = information not found or not addressed.
3. Identifying Writer’s Views/Claims (Yes/No/Not Given)
Similar to above, but based on the writer’s opinions or claims.
YES = agrees with the writer’s view.
NO = disagrees with the writer’s view.
NOT GIVEN = view not stated or unclear.
4. Matching Information
Match statements to the correct paragraph or section (e.g., Which paragraph contains the following information?).
5. Matching Headings
Choose a heading from a list that summarizes a paragraph or section.
There are more headings than paragraphs.
6. Matching Features
Match items (e.g., people, dates, events) to characteristics given in the text.
7. Matching Sentence Endings
Complete sentences by matching the first half (given in questions) with the correct ending from a list.
8. Sentence Completion
Fill in gaps in sentences using words taken directly from the text (must follow word limit, e.g., NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS).
9. Summary/Note/Table/Flow-chart Completion
Fill in gaps in a summary, notes, table, or diagram using words from the text or a given list.
Can be with a word list or without a word list (words must come from text).
10. Diagram Label Completion
Label parts of a diagram using words from the text.
11. Short-answer Questions
Answer questions using words from the text (word limit applies).
