Have you ever been deceived into buying something (a holiday package, a beauty product, a digital thing, …) or into thinking that someone or something was what they really were not? In other words, have you ever been led up the garden path?

Pronunciation Tip

Agma /ŋ/

This is an important nasal sound. it is a /n/ that goes through your nose an in “pink”. But the thing that actually makes it different is that in when we get an “ng”, the g is usually lost at the end of the word in standard English:

swimming /swi-miŋ/

But what about:

sing.er /ˈsiŋ-ər/
ring·er /ˈriŋ-ər/s

fin·ger |  ˈfiŋ-gər

In fact, there are parts of England where this word-final postnasal g is retained: around Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, also in much of Kent, south-east of London, and in New York City in the US. The map shows these areas of England.
